CNN anchor Chris Cuomo shares his experience with COVID-19

While suffering from the coronavirus, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has become the biggest advocate of social distancing in the fight against the pandemic. In a candid interview, he describes what the illness feels like and what the rest of us should do. His message is simple, and it applies to every family, including ours here in Mississauga.

I wrote this post early in the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health advice has changed since then, so check current guidance before you rely on it.

What Chris Cuomo shared about his illness

In this interview, he explains his own personal experience. He talks about how he is enduring the suffering and what he is doing to fight it out. He also explains what we should be doing to avoid becoming victims of this virus.

Hearing it from someone going through it makes the risk feel real. Statistics can feel distant, but a personal story is hard to ignore. That is why the words of Chris Cuomo are worth hearing. Moreover, he spoke plainly, which made his advice easy to follow.

Chicken soup and comfort at home

Interestingly, chicken soup is helping him during this time. However, Chris Cuomo also said that what helps may differ from person to person. In other words, there is no single home remedy that works for everyone.

That is a useful reminder. Comfort at home can help you feel better, but it is not a cure. So, if you feel unwell, follow the advice of your doctor or local public health office. And if symptoms get worse, seek care rather than waiting it out alone. Rest, fluids and patience also play a part in recovery, as most doctors will tell you.

Chris Cuomo’s advice on staying safe

Please listen to his advice and practise these simple steps:

  • practise social distancing
  • wash your hands with soap for twenty seconds
  • avoid going out unnecessarily

None of these steps is hard on its own. Still, together they make a real difference. Distance lowers the chance that the virus passes from one person to the next. Handwashing removes germs before they reach your face. And staying home when you can means fewer contacts overall. The advice from Chris Cuomo applies to everyone, not only to people who feel sick. It is worth a few minutes of your time. Watch it with your family, and then talk about the steps you will take together at home. Children often follow advice better when they hear the reasons behind it. In fact, Chris Cuomo gives a clear and personal picture of the illness.

Keeping families safe at home in Mississauga

For many families, home became the centre of daily life during the pandemic. It was office, school and gym all at once. That made simple habits, like handwashing and cleaning shared surfaces, even more important. It also made staying connected harder. Phone calls, video chats and a wave from the driveway helped many people feel less alone. Looking after your mental health matters just as much as washing your hands.

The advice from Chris Cuomo fits right into that routine. Keep soap by every sink, plan errands so you go out less, and check in on neighbours who live alone. For more from that time, read how Oakville enforced physical distancing with fines, or see how to apply for federal COVID-19 relief.
